Description

Recording Queer ATLThe American Music Show (1981—2005), a groundbreaking queer public access TV program that was produced in Atlanta. This variety show featured recurring performances by personalities like RuPaul, Lady Bunny, and Jayne County. During its 24 years on the air, it recorded “one of the most thorough archives of queer Atlanta history” (Wussy Mag). Showcasing musical acts, sketch comedy, and drag performances, The American Music Show developed its own unique and campy aesthetic, and it left an important legacy for Atlanta’s LGBTQ community.

The evening will include a screening of the show—drawn from Emory’s recently acquired collection of over 700 VHS recordings — as well as a Q&A and discussion with some of the show’s original cast members and a reception.
