Description

Panel Discussion: Friday, September 23 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Winnie the Pooh, Babar and the creatures of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are” guide visitors through “Play by Design: The World of Children’s Books,” an interactive exhibition. The exhibition invites visitors to explore themes of illustration, imagination, the physical dimensions of books – including cutouts and materials – and the development of children’s literature since the Enlightenment. The panels are situated between several “Play Stations” designed to engage children in the history and creation of books through games and hands-on activities. The Bentley Rare Book Gallery also displays artifacts alongside the interactive centers, including a 1926 edition of A. A. Milne’s “Winne-the-Pooh” and toy books and miniatures published by the McLoughlin Brothers.
