Acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni will read her work at Emory University. Giovanni uses her poetry to raise awareness of social issues, especially gender and race. A professor at Virginia Tech, Giovanni has written many collections of poetry, starting with her first self-published volume Black Feeling, Black Talk (1968). She has published more than 20 works of poetry, nonfiction, children’s books, and edited anthologies. Her most recent publications include “Chasing Utopia: A Hybrid” and the children’s poetry book I Am Loved.
