Description

Artist Talk: Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m.

The exhibition "Maybe I Can Paint Over That" by Memphis sculptor and Professor of Art at the University of Memphis, Greely Myatt, focuses on the art of communication. This body of work was inspired by a song by the American Texas country and folk singer Guy Charles Clark. Myatt chose the song because it seems to imply a cover up or an attempt to cover up - a sly reference to the current political elections or as Myatt refers to it, "red, and blue, and lots of talking". Working with comic strip-style thought bubbles made of steel, wax, light, found objects and air, Myatt reinterprets modes of communication in a manner that often references his Southern upbringing.
