"Welcome To Atlanta: Charles H. Nelson, A Retrospective" was curated by Fahamu Pecou. Charles Huntley Nelson was the perfect storm. An artist’s artist, the scholar’s scholar, and the trickster’s trickster. His work blended genres effortlessly - from painting and drawing to performance art and video.

This exhibition represents but a small portion of Nelson's art, but in mining his dynamic corpus of work one discovers the impact of Charles Nelson, particularly in the works of contemporary Atlanta-based artists today. This retrospective is also a significant mark in the history of the Hammonds House Museum, which initially brought Charles to Atlanta where he was the first Seagram’s Artist-in-Residence in 1995-1996. "Welcome to Atlanta" is a snapshot of the artist that also captures the spirit of the city that helped shape his vision – a space of reinvention, imagination, and collaboration.
