Friends of the Congo And David Banner: Community Engagement Forum

Jan 17
Thu, Jan 177pm – 9pm

Friends of the Congo, a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with Congolese to bring about peaceful and lasting change in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is hosting a community engagement event with special guest, David Banner, rap artist and activist.

A film screening and panel discussion are scheduled. Musical and spoken word performances will celebrate the life of Patrice Emery Lumumba, the Congolese politician and independence leader who served as the first Prime Minister of the independent Democratic Republic of the Congo from June until September 1960. He played a significant role in the transformation of the Congo from a colony of Belgium into an independent republic.

Congolese youth who have taken up Lumumba’s mantle by waging a struggle for a free and liberated Congo and Africa will join us directly from the DR Congo to engage in a dialogue and exchange about the future of the Congo, Africa and the African world.
