This solo exhibition is by Natalie Escobar for the MINT Leap Year program, which provides three emerging artists per year with studio space, mentors, exhibition support, a solo exhibition, and more. Escobar paints imaginary environments involving her absent father, her lost Salvadorian family’s history, and her own biracial identity. Her paintings utilize a personal visual symbology: lush tropical leaves, snakes, grates and chains. An isolated figure often peeks through the chaos within the paintings, rarely revealing their identity.
