The Atlanta History Center’s Fall Folklife Festival will have a distinct smoky flavor this year as it focuses on barbecue traditions of Native Americans, African Americans and Americans of European descent in conjunction with the new History Center exhibition Barbecue Nation. Regional cultural expressions also will be explored at the annual event, which will feature honored guests from the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma returning to their ancestral lands. Southeast folk art, hands-on demonstrations of regional crafts, Americana music and storytelling are a recipe for a fun autumn day around Smith Family Farm, a preserved 1860s farmstead.
