Description

Conservator Talk on Preserving Iraqi Heritage: Monday, January 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

This exhibition details the dramatic recovery of historic materials relating to the Jewish community in Iraq. Recovered from a flooded basement in Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters, these materials have been painstakingly preserved by the National Archives. This exhibition tells the remarkable story of the Iraqi Jewish experience and provides a vivid and unparalleled record of Baghdad’s Jewish communal life from the end of the Ottoman era to the early 1970s. In both English and Arabic, the 2,000 square foot exhibition features 23 recovered original artifacts and a “behind the scenes” video of the preservation process.
