Founded in 1943, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was a response to World War II sending men overseas, many of whom would have been of the age to be recruited as baseball players. A League of Their Own follows The Rockford Peaches, based on real-life players. Directed by Penny Marshall, starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Lori Petty, and Madonna.
