The DeKalb History Center collects, preserves and shares the history of DeKalb County. It's archives and Museum are located inside the historic Old Courthouse on the Square in downtown Decatur. The museum features permanent and temporary exhibits relating to all aspects of the County's history. Currently on view are the exhibits "Decorative Arts from the Permanent Collection," "Tears and Curses: A Human Focus on the Civil War," "The Mid-Century Ranch House: Hip and Historic" and "Reclaimed by Nature: the Historic Davidson Quarries of Arabia Mountain."

The DeKalb History Center is actively involved in the preservation of the Historic DeKalb Courthouse and three antebellum structures located on West Trinity Place: the Benjamin Swanton House, the Biffle Cabin, and the Thomas-Barber Cabin.
