Description

Opening Reception: Saturday January 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is pleased to present its permanent collection exhibition, "Abstract and Contemporary Art." In the 20th century, ideals of artistic production began to be placed on raw expression of emotion and indulgence in the materials’ qualities. Expectations of what could be called “art” were rattled in the early 1900s with the advents of Dada, Conceptual Art, and Abstract Expressionism, which all challenged the traditional methods and subjects seen in Western art for centuries prior. This exhibition presents a selection of works from the 1930s through the '80s to illustrate common themes and practices that proliferated mainstream art in this period.
