Forty years after that, the classic tale landed on stage in New York as a Broadway musical, written by Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellows. It delighted audiences for over 2,500 performances and was nominated for several Tony and Olivier Awards.
Now, City Springs Theatre has kicked off its second season with its own production of the beloved classic, Mary Poppins. Assistant Director, Greg London and actor Kerri Conte who plays Mary Poppins, joined Lois Reitzes to discuss the famous movie, the play and the book that inspired them both.
“Julian Fellows was the perfect person to put this together because it really is the best parts of the book, the best parts of the movie, and has wonderful new songs that have been added by Stiles and Drew, which seem like they came from the movie. They’re all in the same style and just magical,” Conte said.
The production of “Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical” begins Sept. 13 and runs through the 22 at City Springs Theatre.
