“Old Town Road” has officially held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 18 weeks. The song was originally created by Atlanta-based rapper Lil Nas X, but was remixed with country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus in May.
Cyrus also released a new single this past week called “Chevys and Fords” with up-and-coming country artist Johnny McGuire. Earlier this year, McGuire broke up from his band Walker McGuire and decided to go solo.
“When I heard ‘Chevys and Fords,’ I just knew it was everything I look for in a country song. People are passionate about their Chevys and Fords, and people are passionate about their music. It seemed like a beautiful collaboration,” Cyrus said.
This is the second time Cyrus has made it to the top of the Billboard charts for several consecutive weeks.
He’s best known for his multiplatinum single “Achy Breaky Heart,” which was No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard chart for 17 weeks in 1992.
On top of his singing career, he is also well known for his time on the Disney series “Hannah Montana” with his daughter, Miley Cyrus.
Billy Ray Cyrus is happy to have come full circle again and be able to mentor the next generation of country artists.
“I have instincts of just knowing, to me, what feels like a hit and both [‘Old Town Road’ and ‘Chevys and Fords’] seemed to have that common denominator,” he said.
